Hiking in the Gole del Raganello

A couple of weeks ago we went back up to Civita to hike the Gole del Raganello with our colleague, Sergio, and his family. The Raganello is a big canyon with a river running along the bottom of it. In late summer, when the water is low enough and the air temperature is warm enough, you can hike along the riverbed.  It's more than just a simple walk, it actually involves wading through water (sometimes knee, waist, or chest high) and climbing over boulders.  It was challenging at times, and overall it was really fun. The next day we were pretty sore, mostly in our arms from all the climbing!  To our friends who visited us earlier this summer and went to Civita, this is what we almost made you do...
